1. Safe, Legal, and Ethical Use of Digital Information and Technology

Using technology in the classroom allows students to explore and experience different ways of learning. With the use of digital information and technology, teachers must inform the students of the safety, legal, and ethical uses before to follow school guidelines.
Students should be aware that the internet is not always a safe place and to be able to identify a safe site, adult predators, and cyber-bullies. Also, that once information is placed on the internet, the student may not be able to remove the information.
Legally students are able to use the internet to browse and search for the information they may need. Teachers need to place rules about social networks and exchanging information between students and other people. Sexting, blackmail, and plagiarism is a common occurrence with technology or digital information. Students need to be aware of outcomes and punishments.

Safety and legal concerns involving the internet are very important topics to discuss with students. Becoming a teacher, I find importance in discussing safety and legal guidelines with students before allowing the students to use technology and digital information. Having real-life examples of people who didn't concern safety or legal use would be helpful for students to understand what can really happen in a misuse situation. If students are only informed but aren't given examples, they are less likely to take safety and legal guidelines seriously.

2. Digital etiquette and responsible social interactions

Etiquette means doing what is appropriate in your surroundings, which has rules digitally as well. Now, I believe we are all guilty of using our cellphones during social interactions at one time or another. For example, at the table in a restaurant, those people in the movie theater texting during the movie, and during group conversations. Being aware of social interactions and taking responsibility is the purpose of digital etiquette.
If needing to use the phone for an emergency, you shouldn't answer and carry a conversation if you are in the middle of a classroom or in an area such as a presentation, show, or movie.  Talking quietly is respectful of others as well, instead of talking abruptly as if you are the only person in the room. You should silence or turn off your phone in areas such as doctor's offices, meetings, or interviews, that is a must!
Importantly, you should think about whether or not using the device is conflicting with the task you are involved in. A very important conflict would be texting while driving, which has led to a large loss of lives around the world.

Digital etiquette is a topic that I think is important for everyone to be more aware of. I have found many situations where I have been at a restaurant with friends or family and every one of us have been on our phones.
I have noticed that when in class, if someone has a device that goes off often, it does not just distract me but distracts other students as well. The person should respect others and turn off the device or leave it in a place where it will not distract others.
I am not  a talented multi-tasker, so I choose not to text and drive for that reason, as well as the reason that I do not feel like dying. There has been times where I have ridden with a friend who texts and drives and I am nervous the entire ride because they are either unaware of their surroundings or the fact they could really hurt or kill somebody.

3. Global awareness and digital-age communication

Global Awareness allows students to be aware of the culture that surrounds them. Through Global Awareness, students learn about other countries around the world and how each culture has unique qualities and history. With technology, students are able to explore many aspects of different cultures with images, online articles, websites, videos, and the news. A teacher can give students projects to research with the use of technology to later present to their classmates with power points, prezi's, or documentaries.
Digital-Age communication opens the doors for students to contact other students in other areas of the world. Students are able to form pen pals, or even class discussions through online video chat with other classes in other countries. Students can ask each other questions that relate to one another's culture.

Global Awareness is important  for students to learn more about the areas outside of their community. If students do not have a sense of Global Awareness, they could experience culture shock, which may result with the idea that anything outside of their community is too different or unsettling to them. The more experiences students are given with Global Awareness, the more opportunities they will take outside of their communities.
Through practicum and Digital-Age communication, I have been able to see two classes communicate from two different states. The students had to ask yes or no questions to find out where the other students were located in the Unites States.

4. Meeting diverse needs of learners through learner-centered strategies and equitable access

Meeting the diverse needs of students can be done in meaningful ways through the use of technology. With technology, programs can be set for students to work individually and at their own pace. This allows students to revisit content they struggle with and to not be pushed towards a new lesson until they have mastered the previous lesson. Also lessons may be more engaging to students through the use of games, pictures, and videos to benefit different styles of learning.

Meeting diverse needs through learner-centered strategies with the use of technology is very important because it benefits more than one learner. Students are given more choices to choose from by knowing how they learn best and make learning fun. I enjoy seeing the excitement children have when they are told to get the Chrome-books out and to work on their math site. The students are excited to learn and are each comfortable working at their own pace. I believe it is important for students to not feel rushed.
